This is part of a series, titled “Our Inner Alien” explores the conversation we have with ourselves about our perceived faults.
It can be used as a self-love reminder when we are experiencing negative self-talk or added to a parent toolkit for coming-of-age children feeling all the feels.
I wrote this quote in my twenties when I was going through a rough patch of failed relationships and awareness of myself. I didn’t want to conform to any one or anything’s ideals. Almost 20 years later, I added an original watercolor illustration to demonstrate this quote.
Have you ever felt you needed to confirm to the ‘pretty’ ideals - what would it mean to be truly beautiful, and odd. I love looking to nature as I ponder this question when I feel confused by what the magazines, TV and society tell us. Nature has the oddest, most beautiful creatures, we can learn so much by observing nature.
