This is part of a series, titled “Our Inner Alien” explores the conversation we have with ourselves about our perceived faults.
It can be used as a self-love reminder when we are experiencing negative self-talk or added to a parent toolkit for coming-of-age children feeling all the feels.
This original watercolor illustration was created in 2024 from a quote by Hans F Hansen.
The process of individuation is arduous. It doesn’t mean we can’t have community around us, but being comfortable in your own skin, your own values and your own voice takes a lot of courage. The survival instinct wants us to fit in, but those are old, outdated programs to keep us save in a tribe - society is going through a big change as a whole in the next few generations and we are celebrating this community-minded individuation on not only a physical, but emotional and spiritual level.
Can you think of any people in history (or modern history) that have gone against the ‘crowd’ and stood in their values, their appearance, personal style and stood up for what they believe is right.
